What you need to know:
- Mr Edmond Ntimba, the Kabale Chief Administrative Officer, in his November 6 circular, said closing the offices will allow fumigation to take place.
Kabale District headquarters have been closed to the general public for one week following two positive Covid-19 cases among the staff members.
Mr Edmond Ntimba, the Kabale Chief Administrative Officer, in his November 6 circular, said closing the offices will allow fumigation to take place.
Mr Ntimba also ordered all the district staff members, including politicians, to take a Covid-19 test.
“This is to alert staff and the general public on the measures put in place against the spread of coronavirus. I have been advised to implement the following measures to stop the pandemic spread: Close all district-based public offices with effect from November 6 up to November 12 to allow fumigation on all possible coronavirus contact surfaces,” the notice reads in part.
Mr Ntimba had last Tuesday, during the budget conference, asked the majority of the district staff to stay at home, allowing only heads of departments and their office attendants to remain in office.
The acting Kabale District Health Officer, Mr Alfred Besigensi, last week said the two staff members are currently undergoing treatment at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital isolation centre.
Mr Besigensi revealed that the number of Covid-19 patients in the district had shot to 35 from 25 within a week.
He appealed to all residents with symptoms similar to those of coronavirus to immediately go for testing.
The district chairperson, Mr Patrick Besigye Keihwa, said the decision to reduce the number of staff is intended to reduce the risk of spreading Covid-19.
He advised the general public to stick to the guidelines issued by the health ministry as a way of curbing on further infections.
As of November 7, Uganda had registered 14,066 positive Covid-19 cases.
