Kitagwenda County MP Abbas Mugisha Agaba has been arrested over failure to pay Shs 16m debt.
Mr Agaba was arrested on Wednesday on orders of the execution division registrar Deo Ninzeyimana in Kampala after he failed to pay fellow MP Herbert Kabafunzaki the said money he acquired as a loan.
“You are hereby ordered to pay to the decree holder the total sum of Shs16m as noted hereunder. And whereas the sum of Shs16m has not been paid to the decree holder in satisfaction of the decree. These are to command you to arrest Hon Agaba the judgment debtor and unless the judgment debtor shall pay to you the sum of Shs16m together with the sum of Shs......as the costs of executing this process, to bring the judgment debtor before this court with all convenient speed," reads part of the Warrant of arrest signed by Mr Ninzeyimana.
By the time of filing this story, Mr Agaba was in the court’s holding cells awaiting to be produced before the magistrate at 2pm.
The arrest comes barely two months after the 39-year-old ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) was arraigned in court in March 2019 and charged with obtaining more than Shs100 million by false pretence.
