Mafabi voted back as BCU head

The secretary general of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, Mr Nathan Nandala Mafabi

Mbale. The secretary general of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, Mr Nathan Nandala Mafabi, has been voted back as chairperson of Bugisu Cooperative Union (BCU).
Mr Mafabi was voted unopposed during the BCU annual general meeting on Friday. The assemby also virtually voted back the entire BCU board save for only three positions of Tsutsu, Bubulo and Lwakhakha zones, which elected new representatives in Mr James Kutosi, Mr Edward Wanambwa and Mr John Musira, also the new Manafwa District chairman, respectively.
The elections were presided over by the commissioner for cooperatives, Mr Joseph Kitandwe at BCU headquarters in Mbale Town.

Mr Nandala, who has already served two terms as the chairperson of the union, said his election for the third term was a sign that the farmer delegates value and appreciate his leadership.
“The delegates (farmers) have again trusted me with the leadership of BCU without contest. This means a lot to me and the entire Bugisu region,” he said.
The board members get a two-year term without limits on the number of terms they can serve.
Mr Nandala noted that BCU has made tremendous achievement since 2010 after the government suspended the then board for alleged falsification of books of accounts.
“As I speak, BCU has no debt. This is a sign we are moving in the right direction,” he said.
