KAMPALA: Maj Gen James Mugira who was recently promoted to his current rank has been given more responsibility to oversee National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), the business arm of the military.
He is the Managing Director of the UPDF Luwero industries, which manufacture bullets, repair riffles and armoured vehicles and manufacture spare parts for military equipment.
His new role will focus on turning around NEC which was established in 1989 by the Act of Parliament with ranches, pharmaceuticals, mattress production and construction units but it has been making loses ever since it was established.
“I can confirm Gen Mugira is the new boss. It’s a huge responsibility but we have no doubt that he will accomplish the task,” the army spokesperson, Lt Col Akunda confirmed.
Col Fred Mwesigye, the current Nyabushozi Member of Parliament is the former MD of NEC.
Brig Mugira replaced Jacqueline Mbabazi, the wife of the former prime minister Amama Mbabazi as the head of Luwero Industries in 2011 after three years serving as military intelligence boss.
