Makerere student held over colleague’s killing

The police flying squad have arrested a Makerere University student in connection with the murder of Desire Mirembe, whose body was found dumped in a sugarcane plantation in Kibubbu village, Kawolo Sub-county, Buikwe District, at the weekend.

The Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Mr Patrick Onyango told Daily Monitor that: “The police flying squad got information that the suspect has information relating to the death of Mirembe and we tracked him down.”

The 19-year-old Mirembe, a Makerere University student was allegedly raped before she was murdered and her body dumped in a sugarcane plantation in Lugazi.

Police say her body was found lying in a pool of blood with her neck cut. Her friends last heard from her on Friday. She is a daughter to Mr Emmanuel Musoke, the Kalungu District chairperson.

Mirembe was in her first year at Makerere University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Speech and Language Therapy.
Ms Kellen Namara, the Kawolo District Police Commander, said police was alerted by the area LCI chairman.

“We were informed by the area LC1 chairperson about a body in Kibubu village on Saturday morning. We went and picked it up and waited for her relatives.
