Man arrested while slaughtering dogs for meat

With just hours to Easter Sunday, where most families buy meat to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, a man in Mbarara District, has been arrested for allegedly supplying dog meat.

Sadru Mustafa was reportedly found slaughtering a dog by residents of Kisenyi cell, Kakoba Division, Mbarara Municipality.

He has reportedly been working with a group of street childen to slaughter dogs and supply the meat to various eateries in Mbarara town.

The suspect alleges that he was being paid Shs30, 000 by some butchers in the town to supply them with dog meat.

Rwizi Regional Police Spokesperson, Mr Samson Kasasira says that the suspect is being held at Mbarara Central Police station pending investigations.

Mr Moses Amanyire, the Mbarara Municipality Veterinary Officer said that his office will work with police to get to the root of the vice.

Ironically, Mbarara District, in western Uganda, is one of the biggest sources of cattle that are slaughtered for beef in the country where it’s  unthinkable to slaughter dogs for meat.
