Independent presidential candidate Willy Mayambala on Monday and Tuesday failed to campaign in Rakai, Kyotera and Lwengo districts as scheduled due to engagements in Kampala.

Mr Mayambala has been off the campaign trail since Saturday, and on Monday when he was supposed to resume, instead went to the Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala for a meeting.

“Mr Mayambala has been unable to campaign in Rakai, Kyotera and Lwengo districts as planned because he was alongside other presidential candidates summoned by the Electoral Commission to attend a meeting on Monday,”  Mr Charles Mpiima, his personal assistant, said yesterday .

However, Mr Mpiima said his boss would set new  dates of  campaigning in the three districts .

“We are going to reschedule our campaign meetings in those areas and we will communicate the new dates soon,” he added.

During his latest campaign in Bukomansimbi District last weekend, Mr Mayambala asked residents to vote for him, saying he knows all the problems affecting the common man.

“I am a farmer like most of you and I know what you are going through than other contenders in the race ,” he said .

Mr Mayambala promised voters that if given a chance to hold the country’s coveted position, he will ensure that expectant women are not charged any money in all public health facilities.

Voters  asked him to give him campaign posters to pin them at their shops but the presidential candidate instead asked them to use their phones to take his picture because he has no money for printing the materials .

“My friends, use your mobile phones  and take my picture , please do me a favour and share it on all your social media platforms as you ask other people to vote for me ,” he said.

Last Thursday,  he was expected to campaign in Sembabule District but did not show up, saying he had run out of fuel.
