Millenials step aside: Big boys, girls takeover Awilo crowd

The crowd at the Awilo Longomba live show in Kampala was mostly made of the men and woman who father these slay kings and Queens that we always see at these social events.
It was held yesterday as old men and women got into their cars to come and party with Awilo Longomba, a Congolese artiste based in France.
Awilo’s type of crowd is not the youth as his music is classic. With tickets going for Shs4M a table of 10, Shs400,000 for a VIP seat and Shs100,000 for a general ticket, Serena Hotel was packed to the brim as revellers started entering the venue as early as 4pm.

Later in the night, accessing the venue was hard for those who came in late because the hall was filled up with organisers of the show fixing in chairs in the auditorium although some people sat down even after paying a ticket of Shs100,000.

Performances kicked off as early as 8pm with Singer Jackie Chandiru taking on the stage to entertain the crowd. She performed some of her songs like Gold Digger, Mi Ora Ku and Hitaji among others.

Guitarist Chamant Mushaga came on stage and delivered his best for those who love smooth music. He played the guitar for about 10 minutes before Singer Eddy Kenzo came on stage.
For the moment, the hall house forgot Awilo as Kenzo performed for about 20 minutes with his big Talent band performing most of his songs. It, however, became boring when he did not leave the stage for the man of the night.

At exactly 10:45pm, Awilo Longomba showed up on stage, the whole house went crazy, they chanted and screamed his name before he kicked off his performance with his band.

He performed songs like Coupe Bibamba, Enemy Solo, Bundelele, Karoline and Mwana Mama among others.
The room became too hot and everyone who was sweating came out to get some freh air since Victoria Hall was packed.
He pulled some of his best lingala dance strokes but it seems like the crowd had rehearsed with him, they too pulled off the same dances on the floor.
He called the people in the ordinary section to join the VIP section which had only a few seated. The hall turned into a dancing hall of sorts as everyone was seen dancing from wherever they were watching him from.

“I love you Uganda, I love you so much. I am excited to be here and happy that I am still performing and I will be in Arua on Sunday,” Awilo said while calling it a night at exactly 11:45pm. The show was organized by Cents Events and Fenon Records that made sure the sound, lighting and stage was on point as Steve Jean, the Fenon Records boss was on ground like he always does on different shows.
