Mirundi back on air, attacks Mbabazi, Mao

Presidential advisor on media, Mr Tamale Mirundi on his come back to air has hit out at Democratic Party (DP) chairperson Mr Norbert Mao saying he should not be trusted.
Mr Mirundi was speaking during an interview on NBS TV on Tuesday morning.
Mirundi who was last week stopped by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) from appearing on radio and TV talk show programs had no kind words for the former Gulu Municipality MP.
"Mao is not reliable. He is slippery. He once quit DP and formed a party with Aggrey Awoori. He ( Mao) once said he only does things twice. Why then is he coming back after two terms as MP in Gulu?" Mirundi added.
The self-proclaimed political pundit also accused former premier Amama Mbabazi of using people for his selfish gains, citing Mao again as an example.
"Mbabazi uses people at every stage. Where is Niringiye, poor youths and now Mao?" he posed.
Mr Mirundi’s budding career as a "political pundit" came under a scare when UCC ordered broadcasters to stop hosting the motor–mouthed former presidential press secretary.
The regulator accused Mr Tamale, of using abusive language, which is against the law, and threatened to revoke the broadcasting licenses of stations that host him.
When asked to comment on Tamale’s ban on air, President Yoweri Museveni on Tuesday said “Just as assaulting others is a crime so is offending other people by saying wrong things about them.”
Quoting the Epistle of James, Mr Museveni said, “Even the bible says the tongue is poisonous. Saying bad things about some people is not good. I don’t know the details but the substance is that don’t offend people by saying wrong things about them.”
Mr Museveni made the remarks during a question and answer session with journalists at Soroti State Lodge
However, UCC acting director broadcasting, Mr Fred Otunnu said that after a meeting with the different affected media houses at the commission's offices in Bugolobi, a verdict was reached to have Mr Tamale back on air under the condition that the said talk shows are carefully regulated to ensure non violation of the law.
"We met with all of them (media houses) at our office on Monday, they acknowledged that the law exists and that it's their duty to ensure it is not violated, we do not want to gag the media, but programs must be done with in the law," Mr Otunnu said.
