Mother, one-year old twins found dead in garden

What you need to know:

  • While the death of the mother and her twin babies is still subject to investigation since their respective remains were recovered inside a garden tent where they have been taking shelter, authorities in Nakaseke reveal that four murders have been registered in a period of less than one week.

In what appears to be a new security threat in the greater Ngoma areas of Nakaseke District, authorities on Monday retrieved lifeless bodies of a mother and her one-year-old twins at one of the farms located in Ngoma Sub County.

While the death of the mother and her twin babies is still subject to investigation since their respective remains were recovered inside a garden tent where they have been taking shelter, authorities in Nakaseke reveal that four murders have been registered in a period of less than one week.

Savannah Region Police Spokesperson, Mr Sam Twineamazima, on Tuesday identified the deceased persons as Proscovia Namusoke, 25, and the twins only identified as Nakato and Babirye.

“A resident of Kilyasabo Village, Ngando Parish in Ngoma Sub County identified as Josephine Nayigaga on Monday morning went to check on her friend at the garden but when she called out her name, there was no response. She opened the tent and found that her friend was dead,” he said.

Upon realising that that her friend and children were dead, Nayigaga notified the nearby police post that responded. The bodies were transported to Nakaseke Hospital for postmortem, the police revealed on Tuesday.

Mr Mathias Mugisha, a defense secretary at Ngando Village says that while the cause of death is still being investigated, the residents are scared about the new death cases including one where an unidentified man defiled and later murdered a six-year old girl as she walked home from school in Kirangazi Village, Ngoma Sub County.

“We are surprised that a mother and her twin babies have been housed in a tent in a garden. We all don’t know what happened to this family. We are left in fear and left guessing,” he said.

Ms Josephine Naigaga, a close friend to the deceased said she last saw her in good health on Sunday evening.

“I had come to check on her since we work on the farm and she had not reported for work in the early morning hours. I was forced to go and find out. Unfortunately, the mother and her babies were already dead,” she said.

Ngoma Sub County LCIII chairperson, Mr Geoffrey Kizza, said they convened a meeting on Monday to try and address the security concerns in the area that have since caused panic among the residents.

“It is now a requirement that all farm workers get registered as residents at their respective LC1 offices. Suspicious people that walk through the villages should be reported,” he said.
