MP Ogwal: Gen Tumwine threat to my life
The Dokolo District Woman Member of Parliament, Ms Cecilia Ogwal, yesterday told the House Committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline that she fears Security minister Gen Elly Tumwine may be targeting her life or some members of her family.
Ms Ogwal was appearing as a witness before the committee chaired by Kalaki County MP Clement Ongalo-Obote, which is investigating allegations that Gen Tumwine has been uttering statements demeaning the institution of Parliament and the person of Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.
The same committee is investigating circumstances under which Gen Tumwine allegedly attempted to assault Ms Ogwal inside the pigeon hole lobby of Parliament on Tuesday last week.
“The way General attacked me, the way he disrespects Parliament, means Gen Tumwine can send me six feet deep (to the grave). And I repeat what I said on the floor of Parliament after Gen Tumwine attacked me, that, if anything happens to me through shooting or food poisoning, Gen Tumwine will be responsible,” she said.
She added: “My family members are in danger from a top military officer.”
On Tuesday, after reviewing the CCTV camera footage in which Gen Tumwine is seen charging towards the corner where Ms Ogwal was seated but does not show her in particular, the MPs on the committee questioned the quality of the footage.
Mr Ongalo-Obote, yesterday said he had visited the scene and realised that the cameras were not fixed well to see all corners of the lobby.
Gen Tumwine, who has since said he only approached Ms Ogwal to say that she told lies against him, is expected to appear today to present his defence.
