Mukwano moves factories
What you need to know:
Recently, Tororo District chairperson Emmanuel Ossuna said the government has approved licences for new factories to be set up in district, including Mukwano.
Kampala- Mukwano Industries is clearing their site in Namanve Industrial Park to pave way for the relocation of some of their factories from Kibuli, a city suburb.
Eng Frank Ssebowa, the executive director Uganda Investment Authority (UIA), told Daily Monitor in a recent interview that Mukwano is relocating to Namanve because the latter is a designated industrial park. He also said part of the factory will be shifted to Tororo District where the government is setting up an industrial city.
“We have made new designs for Tororo to become a big industrial city. It has phosphates, iron ore and minerals to drive it into an industrial city and we know it has the capacity to grow to that status,” he said.
Mr Douglas Mazune, the Mukwano Group communications officer, confirmed the development, saying it is part of the factory’s expansion drive.
“It is true Mukwano is expanding to Tororo. I am not sure about the industries but it’s a new business for now. When we are ready, we will let you know. For now we are developing the site,” he said.
Recently, Tororo District chairperson Emmanuel Ossuna said the government has approved licences for new factories to be set up in district, including Mukwano.
