Luweero- President Museveni has directed resident district commissioners to arrest politicians who preach sectarianism during campaigns.

Speaking on Tuesday at the pass out of 2,919 UPDF soldiers at Kaweweta Recruit Training School in Nakaseke District, the President said politics of sectarianism has no room in Uganda.

“I don’t know what my RDCs are doing. You could have already arrested these people engaged in politics of sectarianism. You do not need to consult on issues which are very clear,” he said.

“I have heard that some people have embarked on political campaigns taking advantage of their respective religions and tribes. This must stop immediately,” Mr Museveni directed.

President Museveni, who delivered his speech under floodlights at around 7:30pm, advised the pastoral community to be very careful with politicians who have failed to master Uganda’s history including the price citizens paid to attain the prevailing peace.

“It is very clear you don’t consume the milk you get from the cows but sell to the outside community. So where does one get the guts to be sectarian when you know all these facts. Even those who do it silently will be arrested,” Mr Museveni asserted.

The President, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the UPDF, praised the instructors at Kaweweta Training School for the high level of training exhibited.

The recruits were trained in obstacle crossing, tactical range, long range and marksmanship.
Referring to the new infrastructure development at Kaweweta, the president said the UPDF has mastered the art of professionalism.

Earlier, Sheikh Muhamad Mula, in charge of Ngoma and Kanyogoga, caused laughter when he beseeched Allah to take away all politicians standing against President Museveni.

Most people in the audience construed it as directed at former prime minister Amama Mbabazi who picked nomination forms to take on Mr Museveni and the Opposition.
