Museveni drops Nkangi from ULC

President Museveni has dropped Mr Joash Mayanja Nkangi as the chairperson of Uganda Land Commission, and replaced him with former state minister for lands, Mr Baguma Isoke. Mr Isoke, was also the board chairman of the National Forest Authority (NFA).

Sources on the Parliament’s Appointments Committee told the Daily Monitor that the President wrote to Speaker Rebecca Kadaga on July 13, forwarding the names of the new commissioners for consideration and approval.

Some of the commissioners are; Mr Charles Muhoozi, Ms Ruth Alinyikira Owagage, Mr Johnson Okwir Okello, Mr Joseph Kasaija, Ms Mary Badaku, Ms Winfred Matsiko and Ms Janat Mukwaya, the former minister for General Duties in the Prime Minister’s Office.

While it’s not yet clear why the President chose to drop Mr Nkangi, sources close to Lands Ministry told the Daily Monitor last evening that the former Finance minister was dropped on accounts of age and poor health.
Other sources say that Mr Nkangi’s contract and that of other commissioners had expired and that the President was under obligation to constitute a new Commission.

According to Public Accounts Committee members, Mr Nkangi’s tenure has been riddled with allegations of land grabbing and the allocation of government land to investors through questionable circumstances.
