Museveni should learn from the fall of Gaddafi

Norbert Mao, DP president-“If there was any man that the word Pakalast fitted, it was Gaddafi. And now that the original Pakalast is gone, what about the copycats?"

Death of a despot. Eight months after Libyans rebelled against the dictatorship of Col. Gaddafi, his 42-year tyranny came to an ignoble end with the former leader being dragged out of a water drain pipe and executed.

UGANDA GOVERNMENT

Henry Okello-Oryem, State Minister for International Affairs. “The current position is that the AU recognised the NTC as the legitimate representative of the Libyan people...Therefore Uganda’s position on NTC is within the context of the AU position.”

TOORO KINGDOM

Philip Winyi, Foreign Affairs Minister. “This is a very unfortunate moment for Toro Kingdom because Col. Gaddafi was a special friend of Toro. He has been one of the guardians of King Oyo and he has been extremely helpful to the young King.”

MUSLIM COMMUNITY

Hajj Nsereko Mutumba spokesman UMSC. “Islamic teachings tell us that whatever has a beginning shall always have an end. And according to the holy word, nothing can happen unless Allah has declared it so...This is how God prepared his life.”

Norbert Mao, DP president
“If there was any man that the word Pakalast fitted, it was Gaddafi. And now that the original Pakalast is gone, what about the copycats? The fall of Gaddafi should send a clear message to President Museveni to prepare his exit since he too seems to be in the exit lounge although refusing to board the exit plane. The writing is clear on the wall that everything has an end.”

Salaam Musumba, FDC vice president
“It is just unbelievable and reminds me of the fall of Idi Amin, which wasn’t be believed at first. His [death] confirms how futile it can be to try amassing the whole world yet you can’t take with you anything. It’s an enigma and shows how one man can ruin the lives of many and finally his own. I wish I would see him alive and caged to show African dictators that there is nothing as beautiful as democracy.”

John Ken Lukyamuzi, CP president
“I am very happy to hear that Col. Gaddafi has been captured- all I wish is to confirm that he hasn’t been killed. It is a good lesson to the political leaders of Africa who have a dictatorial bias in them that such a time will always come no matter how long it takes. I am happy because everyone will see a news situation in Libya where he is no closer to their power.”

Joseph Bbosa, UPC vice president
“The changes Libya wanted will now take place unhampered because for as long as he was alive, he would cause instability. Now I don’t see any of his loyalists sustaining the fight against the current regime. Change is inevitable but history says once you resist peaceful change, you get it the Gaddafi way.
