What you need to know:

Hajj Nadduli says Mr Mbabazi is not the right person to invite given his current challenges with the NRM.

Luweero- Luweero District NRM chairman Abdul Nadduli has directed St Paul Church of Uganda to cancel a function where sacked prime minister Amama Mbabazi was invited as chief guest.

Hajj Nadduli through the district security committee directed the organising committee to cancel the invitation of Mr Mbabazi for the Sunday function.

“We are surprised Hajj Nadduli, who has never honoured his pledges at different fundraising functions for this church, has decided to stop a guest we invited four months ago, Mr Sunday Edward Kalanzi, a church member, said. “We are disturbed by attempts to politicise church function,” he added.

St Paul Church of Uganda Wobulenzi, through the Bishop of Luweero Anglican Diocese, invited Mr Mbabazi.

Another member of the committee, Mr Godfrey Ssekabembe, said Mr Mbabazi was invited not as a politician but as a Christian.

“It would be an embarrassment if a Church function is turned political. What we need are funds from different guests. We do not mind political affiliations,” he said.

However, Hajj Nadduli told Daily Monitor he had briefed the committee about “the dangers and risks involved in inviting Mr Mbabazi as the chief guest”. “You know what is going on in regard to Mr Mbabazi. He is not the best person to invite for such a function. They need the money but we should also consider political implications,” he said.

However, Rev Simon Kyazze, the church cleric, said the function would go on because they need Shs60m to complete construction and purchase of a public address system.
