NBS TV goes off air over debt

Nile Broadcasting Service (NBS) TV has been disconnected from Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) infrastructure on claims of nonpayment.
According to UBC managing Director, Paul Kihika, NBS has not been paying the corporation since September 2012.

“They have been trespassing on a UBC infrastructure with no contract of legality for using the corporation’s infrastructure,” said Mr Kihika when contacted for a comment.

For further details, especially on the accumulated arrears, Kihika referred our reporter to the Ministry of finance.
When contacted for comment on the issue, Government spokesperson, Ofwono Opondo referred Monitor Online to the minister of Information on claims that he was not in Kampala and therefore could not comment on the matter since he did not have the details.

However, efforts to reach Minister of Information and National Guidance, Rose Namayanja Nsereko were futile since her two known telephone numbers were switched off.

All media houses using UBC infrastructure pay monthly fees to UBC. NBS TV was allegedly connected by old management on personal terms. NBS TV is now off air till they clear all outstanding arrears to zero.
