Nebbi. China Railway Number 5 Engineering Company Limited has said the $3.8 million project for the rehabilitation and construction work of Nebbi hospital is ready for hand over to the district.
“From the assessment we have made in the construction and rehabilitation work of the hospital, we can now hand over maternity ward, mortuary, female ward and the labour suite for use by patients,” Mr Timothy Adukuseka, the site engineer at the company, said while meeting district leaders and a team from ministry of Health on Monday.
He said although some of the construction and rehabilitation works are still under minor repair, there is need for the contractor to hand over some of the finished works to the district for use.

Satisfied
“We feel those finished facilities should start being used by the patients so that we can identify some of the problems that may arise and later fix them other than waiting for the official hand over,” Mr Adukuseka said.
Nebbi hospital, whose construction and rehabilitation work started on February 28, 2014 and was to end on August 28, 2015, could not be finished on the specified time due to challenges of manpower and the machinery at the site.
It is among the nine health facilities in the country that is undergoing renovation under the Uganda Health Systems Strengthening Project IDA meant to improve health services.
The district health officer, Dr Jakor Oryema, welcomed the handing over of the facilities, saying it would reduce congestion.
“We have been overwhelmed with the number of patients who turn up for treatment and are faced with scarcity of bedding facilities and this had caused unease for the patients to get services peacefully,” he said.
