One person has died and two others sustained injuries in an accident at a gold mine in Mubende District.

The two have been admitted to Kasanda Hospital in critical condition.
The victims were buried alive while extracting gold.

Eyewitnesses told this newspaper that Tom Nzizini, the chairperson of Kamusenene Village in Kikandwa Sub-county, died after the ground caved in on him as he mined gold.

The officer in-charge of Kasanda Police Station, Ms Patience Baganzi, said the incident occurred in Lugongwe Village in Kitumbi Sub-county.

The incident occurred barely a week after this newspaper published a story on how residents of Mubende District are scampering for the gold mining business.
