Following the devastating Kiteezi landfill collapse, Opportunity Bank has stepped in to provide relief and support to the affected residents.
The bank organised a distribution of essential food supplies, including rice, posho, salt, sugar, and soap, to those impacted by the disaster.
"As a gesture of solidarity and support, we chose to implement measures to assist the affected people as they recuperate from the incident," said Owen Amanya, Opportunity Bank's Chief Executive Officer.
Mr Amanya explained that the bank understands the severity of the situation, where clients lost their businesses and shelter in the collapse. "We are taking on their loan obligation to enable them to resume a normal life," he said.
This decision aims to alleviate the financial pressure on the affected individuals, allowing them to focus on rebuilding their lives.
Opportunity Bank teams are working to ensure the supplies reach every individual and family in need.
Mr Amanya expressed the bank's delight in knowing that their clients and families are recovering well and resuming their lives with dignity and purpose.
The Kiteezi landfill tragedy claimed 35 lives and displaced many others.
