Organisation releases song for Uganda’s 50th birthday
In commemoration of celebrations to mark 50 years of Independence, the Uganda Jubilee Network on Friday released a song that captures the evolution of Uganda and the different Ugandan cultures.
Uganda celebrates 50 years of Independence on October 9.
The song has lyrics in Iteso, Luganda, Swahili, Luo, Runyakole and Rutoro. A group of gospel artistes led by Kilwana Africa composed the song.
Speaking at the release of the song, Dr James Magara, the chairperson Uganda Jubilee Network, said the organisation is “looking for songs that will capture the season and mood of the nation”.
He added that the song is a special birthday to Uganda as the year of the jubilee is a very special one. A song contest has also been organised for artistes to compose songs in memory of independence celebrations.
An unidentified cash prize will be won by five finalists.
The contest will be open to all Ugandans. The Uganda Jubilee Network will also organise family meetings, walks, inter-university youth think-tanks and special prayers to commemorate 50 years after colonial rule.
