Parents undress teacher for breaking plastic chair

Teacher undressed in public for breaking plastic chair

LIRA
In other places, if you sit on a chair and breaks down, people empathise with you but at Imato Ikwoto village, where only one household out of 35 has plastic chair, it’s a different story.
Parents of Akano Primary School, Ogur Sub-county in Lira District, on Monday allegedly humiliated a teacher by forcing him to undress on camera as punishment for breaking a plastic chair.

The teacher only identified as Mr Kabil reportedly suffered the humiliation as a punishment after he broke one plastic chair at Acan Pe Kun Bar where he had gone to watch a soccer match.
Mr Sam Aboi, the LC1 chairman of Imato Ikwoto village, said the teacher was forced to undress after he failed to pay Shs20,000 as a fine for the broken chair.
Mr Kabil reportedly arrived at the bar at around 9:30pm and was given a damaged plastic chair. No sooner had he sat on it than he fell down.

Consequently, the bar owner Mr Arab Moi, asked the teacher to pay the Shs20, 000 as compensation for the broken chair. However, the teacher pleaded for lenience saying he had only Shs14,000.
The teacher, who wore a black trouser and a long sleeved blue shirt, was then ordered to remove all his clothes despite continuous pleas.
Mr Richard Ojok, the LC1 chairman of Abino village, where the teacher resides said the punishment was unfair.
“He is a very humble teacher who is loved by many parents and pupils but his only problem is that he likes drinking alcohol too much,” he said.

When contacted Mr Arab Moi, the bar owner, claimed the incident happened when he was in Kampala but local officials said he was behind the humiliation.
“I was not at home. I’m in Kampala now. I was told that the teacher was very stubborn and he disorganised by other guests,” Mr Moi said on Tuesday.
However, it is not clear whether the teacher is considering taking any legal action.
Efforts to get his version of the story were futile as he was not readily available by press time.
