The body of a Kenyan national whose semi-trailer caught fire at Wandago Village, along the Jinja-Iganga highway on New Year, has been recovered, police said on Sunday.
The discovery of Ibrahim Abedi Yare's body follows a frantic search that has been underway for three days, the Busoga East Police Spokesperson, Mr James Mubi, said.
"When the accident occurred, we didn't find any body or injured person at the scene, although the driver was feared dead. Against that background, we started a search and found the severely burnt body floating on Wandago Waters," Mr Mubi said.
He added that a post-mortem was done and the body handed over to relatives from Kenya.
About the accident
"At first it was reported that the accident as minor, but it's now it's fatal. It involved the semi-trailer registration number KAN 825D/ZD 9796 and Mercedes Benz registration number UAB 851Y," Mr Mubi explained.
Mr Mubi added that preliminary investigations suggest the semi-trailer collided with the Mercedes Benz, forcing the semi trailer to overturn several times while rolling into a valley before being engulfed in flames.
"Since then, it has not been an easy work to search and retrieve the body until today (Sunday) when we registered success," said Mr Mubi.
