Police says preliminary investigations indicate Kasiwukira was intentionally run over by a speeding car.

KAMPALA

Police have started a hunt for a vehicle and the driver which yesterday knocked dead city businessman, popularly known as Kasiwukira.

Preliminary on-scene police investigations pointed to an ‘intentional’ run-over.

Eria Sebunnya Bugembe was knocked by a vehicle in Muyenga, a Kampala suburb, as he jogged in the morning on the roadside. The car sped off immediately after the incident.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Patrick Onyango said they initially thought it was a hit-and-run accident but after talking to people living near the scene, they got more information which suggested the incident was an ‘intentional’ run-over.

“Neighbours told us that the car driver parked near the area for some time and it was only driven away when Sebunnya started running,” Mr Onyango said.
“After knocking him, the car sped off. That is why we are now focusing on a murder case,” Mr Onyango said.

Gen Kale Kayihura, the Inspector General of Police, who also jogs in the same area, visited the scene and promised to investigate the case to a logical conclusion.

However, police remained silent on whether they had got particulars of the killer vehicle.
“This is part of the investigations which I can’t reveal now. It is still too early to bring out where we have reached,” he said.

Mr Sebunnya was one of Uganda’s first music promoters, who helped famous musicians including, Eagles’ Productions (now disbanded) to rise to fame. He also owns a tiles and pavers factory in Najjanankumbi on Entebbe Road.

REACTION

‘I am saddened by the death of Kasiwukira. He used to buy my music and advise me. The last advice he gave me, which I will never forget was; “If you make money, build a house,’
Ronald Mayinja, Golden Band (formerly Eagles Production).

“I will never forget Kasiwukira. He was loving, supportive, encouraging and very parental. He supported my music career by buying over six of my albums; Jamila, Mambo Bado, Beyi Kali, among others. He bought all these albums at Shs30 million. Kasiwukira used to have passion for Ugandan music.”
Jose Chameleone, aka Joseph Mayanja, Musician.
