Security deny holding suspected serial killer

Kampala. The police yesterday said they have no clue to the whereabouts of Baker Walusimbi, the suspected serial killer who was re-arrested about a fortnight ago at the High Court premises in Kampala.
Mr Walusimbi was re-arrested shortly after being released on bail and taken to Kampala Central Police Station.
The Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Mr Luke Owoyesigyire, yesterday referred us to the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) headquarters.
“Kindly contact Mr Vincent Sekate of CID headquarters, he could be knowing. We don’t have him,” he said by telephone.
Mr Sekate also referred this newspaper to the spokesperson of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) on grounds that they do not have Mr Walusimbi in their custody. The army deputy spokesperson, Lt Col Deo Akiki, said he had not seen such a name at his desk but promised to crosscheck. But Walusimbi’s lawyer, MacDosman Kabega, said his client is being held at the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) in Kireka, which is now manned by the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI).
When asked which new charges have been slapped against Walusimbi, Counsel Kabega said there were none.Mr Walusimbi is accused of killing several university female students by slitting their throats, raping and robbing them of their personal belongings such as mobile phones and other items in 2005.
