Senior Principal State Attorney Joan Kagezi has been shot dead in what police say was a planned assassination.

“I can confirm to you that she was shot at and was injured. She has been rushed to Mulago hospital,” Ms Polly Namaye said earlier on Monday evening.

Ms kagezi was reportedly shot by two assailants who had been trailing her on a boda boda motorcycle. According to preliminary investigations, Ms Kagezi was shot dead at around 7:00.

The Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) spokesperson, Ms Jane Kajjuga said  Kagezi was shot at Najjera while driving the judiciary car back to her home.

“She was shot dead and it was confirmed by the director CIID,” Ms Kajjuga said.

Ms Kagezi had been prosecuting a high profile case involving the July 2010 Kampala bomb suspects.

By Monday evening, a team of detectives led by the Director of CIID Ms Grace Akullo and Inspector General of police Gen Kale Kayihura had dashed to Najjeera, in Kira Town Council where the incident happened.
