Son kills mother over witchcraft

Police in Bundibugyo district are holding a 38-year-old man for allegedly killing his mother with a hoe over witchcraft.

The gruesome incident occurred on Monday in Buganikere town council, Bundibugyo District.

The suspect is said to have killed Sisiriya Kabatoro, 82, accusing her of practicing witchcraft.

According to the area chairperson Ms Felister Tibasuka, the violence started in the morning when the angry suspect narrated that he often dreams about his mother eating him alive.

Tibasuka added that it is after such dreams that the suspect hit his mother on the head twice using a hoe leaving her unconscious in a pool of blood.

“I found the woman lying in a pool of blood and he was standing near her holding a hoe. He also wanted to kill us so we had to run a way and call for police to come and rescue us. Police scared him by firing two live bullets in the air forcing him to surrender,” said Tibasuka.

According to the District Police Commander, Mr Taban Swaibu, the victim was rushed to Bundibugyo main hospital in a critical condition. She was, however, pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

The angry residents had wanted to lynch the suspect but police rescued him. He is currently being detained at Bundibugyo police station.

An eye witness and a resident of the area Mr.Augstine Tibakunirwa said the suspect has is a renowned drug addict.
