Three dead, ten injured in Kamwenge accident

Kabarole - At least three people are reported to have died on spot and over ten others seriously injured in an accident along the Fort Portal - Kamwenge road.

The dead have been identified as Mwesige Kaamu, Jimmy Barweteera and Atwijuka Venansio.The deceased are residents of Rwaihamba parish in Rutete sub County in Kabarole district.

The victims are said to have been traveling in a tipper lorry when the accident occurred on Sunday afternoon.

Simon Nkwasiibwe, a victim currently admitted at Fort Portal Referral Hospital, said he was part of the Ndali Football team which was heading to Kamwenge for a friendly match with Bigodi Football Club in Bigodi sub county, Kamwenge District.

He explains that when they reached at Kanyancu Tourist Site hill in Kibaale Forest along Fort portal -Kamwenge road, the driver failed to control the vehicle due to overloading and over speeding.

The vehicle overturned several times killing three people instantly and wounding over ten. The injured were identified as Tukasime Amina, Nkwasibwe Simon, Alinaitwe Robert, Natukunda Miriati, Night Rose, Turyatemba Kenneth and Asiimwe Joseph, all residents of Rwaihamba in Ruteete Sub County Kabarole district

The injured were rushed to Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital.

The OC Traffic Fort Portal Police Station Richard Oliiri has confirmed the accident and attributed it to over speeding and overloading.
