TVO’s life at risk in hands of Uganda government- Facebook appeals

Global social media giant Facebook has petitioned the High Court in Ireland in a last ditch move to block the court order instructing it to reveal the identity of Tom Voltaire Okwalinga to lawyer Fred Muwema on account of Uganda’s human rights record, arguing that his life and liberty is under immense risk.
Facebook fears that should Mr Muwema be furnished with the personal identification details of TVO, he will be easily coerced by government of Uganda to share the same and expose him to a den of lions who have persistently sniffed for his blood. In building a case on why the court should protect TVO, the affidavit makes damning allegations against government officials and security agencies, who have in the past denied ever asking Facebook for personal details of any Ugandan whenever the multibillion dollar company released its annual information requests from governments.
Government spokesman Ofwono Opondo yesterday blasted Facebook for what he said was, “escapism and trying too hard to drag government of Uganda in their case.”
