Two suspects linked to Zana murder arrested

Mr Fred Enanga, the police spokesman

Police have arrested two suspected robbers who are linked to the murder of two women who were operating a mobile money shop at Zana, a Kampala suburb, early this week.

A Saturday statement by Mr Fred Enanga, the police spokesman, says the ongoing “intelligence-led operation” by the territorial police in Kampala Metropolitan Area (KMP), culminated in the arrest of the two suspected robbers.

“These include Onechan Emma and Magusho Denis, bringing the total number of arrest to three; following the initial arrest of Stanley Muluuta alias Frank Jjumba alias Ssalongo,” Mr Enanga’s statement reads in part.

He said that the suspects who are former convicts, were released recently from prison.

He said they are also highly connected to the multiple shootings in Masaka, where they robbed a Toyota Harrier in Kimanya and later sold it in South Sudan.

Mr Enanga said in the statement that the same group, on May 4, at Katwe, robbed a bag containing a pressure machine and clothes which they mistook for cash.

He said that members of the group, on May 14, at Nateete, Church Zone, robbed Mr Dennis Mwesiwa and his wife of Shs610, 000 and other items before shooting dead Rachael Walugembe in  the same area.

The police mouthpiece said that on May 17, at Kitende A cell, they robbed Nalukwago Sanyu, a mobile money dealer, of Shs17 million

The suspects  and other still at large, according to Mr Enanga, on 10 June, shot dead Harriet Nalwadda and Moreen Nakabuubi, and robbed them of Shs6 million in Zana.

He said the suspects were arrested while planning another robbery mission of a mobile money shop at Mutukula, Rakai District.

Mr Enanga said that another AK 47 gun was recovered bringing the total number of recovered guns to three.

“The guns were tested and the ballistic evidence tied the suspects to the three murders and five robberies after the recovered guns matched the shell castings exhibited by police,” Mr Enanga said.

He said: “The suspects are being charged with a range of offences including three counts of murder, attempted murder, robbery and illegal possession of firearms.”
