Vote God fearing leaders, says archbishop Bainomugisha

The Isingiro District chairman, Jeremiah Kamurari said politicians need to use Christmas to reflect on what is right and good for the country through allowing people to share different views on how they want to be governed.
The archbishop of Mbarara Lambart Bainomugisha has asked Ugandans to vote leaders who are God fearing and will respect humanity in the forthcoming 2021 general election.
Archbishop Bainomugisha who was leading the Christmas mass at Nyamitanga cathedral on Friday said the campaign process is always a hectic season which raises tempers but prayed that voters and candidates keep calm for it to be peaceful.
‘’In Uganda, we are in the period of preparing for elections, we are trying to elect leaders at all levels of governance. We all know that the process of campaigning can be energy draining on the candidates and perhaps hectic and chaotic on those to be elected and the voters. We pray to the Lord that this period can be of peaceful and calm,’’ said Archbishop Bainomugisha
He added: “…and that voters use their wisdom, discretion and prudence to identify and vote for rightful leaders. Leaders endowed with dignity, human values and who are God fearing, leaders who can steer our nation into the right direction of peace and harmony among the people.’’
Archbishop Bainomugisha said Uganda needs leaders who will develop the country by not being tolerant to corruption and any form of graft.
‘’Leaders who can steer our nation towards progress and development, leaders who steer clear of corruption and graft of all types and at all levels. We need leaders who can bring comfort and consolation to the populace that is hit hard by the hardships of all sorts and various trials.’’
He added ‘’ We are in dire need of leaders that are true shepherds, the kind that prophet Jeremiah predicts and I quote then ‘’I will give you shepherds after my own heart who will feed you on knowledge and understanding’’ ‘’
Archbishop Bainomugisha said the people who are affected by the Covid-19 need to be given comfort so that they can regain self-esteem and optimism.

‘’We need to use this Christmas as political leaders to accept people with diverging views. We should pray that we are given soft hearts to be humanly and allow different politicians to share their manifestos to the public without any hindrance so that people can get leaders they want,’’ said Mr Kamurari.

‘’Christmas day means celebrations and peace so we need to continue peaceful in our hearts as we are now. There have been some altercations in presidential elections so we want this election to be peaceful and avoid being rigged to have peaceful election,’’ said Mr Mbarebaki.
