Water body confirms Dr Mugisha as managing director

The National Water and Sewerage Corporation Board has confirmed the contract of Dr Silver Mugisha as the Managing Director.

Dr Mugisha was confirmed during the NWSC board meeting last week, a move that ends speculation about the top leadership post at the only government-owned utility operating and providing water and sewerage services in the larger urban centres.

The confirmation follows the August 2013 appointment of Dr Mugisha, a former chief manager, Institutional Development and External Services at the corporation who beat his closest rival, Mr Alex Gisagara, to take the coveted job after months of tight rope pulling.
The NWSC board chaired by Eng Christoper Ebal rated Dr Mugisha’s performance as “excellent” and handed him a five-year term.

“Dr Mugisha has performed excellently in key areas of cohesive and effective leadership of the management team, setting the tone for the corporation consistent with high technical and financial standards, integrity and fairness and has strengthened the nation water communication function,” a board member who did not want to be quoted said.

According to the board member, Dr Mugisha has also strengthened the engagement with stakeholders and hit Shs14.7 billion average monthly turn over billing between July and December 2013, against the target of Shs15 billion.

Eng Ebal confirmed the appointment of Dr Mugisha in a telephone interview, saying that his performance had satisfied the board.
