  • The MP says the reports are a smear campaign run by one of the opposition radio stations in Jinja town to downplay his achievements.

Worshipers at Bugembe Cathedral Church of Uganda in Jinja District on Monday reportedly walked out of church when Butembe MP, Nelson Lufafa was given a microphone to deliver his Christmas message.
According to sources who attended the service, prayers were going on well but when the church leadership gave chance to Mr Lufafa to speak, some worshipers walked out of the church accusing him misrepresenting their views in Parliament during the age limit bill debate.

The three who are all residents of Mafubira Sub-county, last Friday allegedly pelted stones at a car belonging to Nelson Lufafa with stones at Mafubira Primary School.

However, when this reporter contacted Mr Lufafa on telephone for a comment on Tuesday, he refuted the reports describing them as a smear campaign run by one of the opposition radio stations in Jinja town to downplay his achievements.

“It’s true I was in the church and people were happy to see me celebrating Christmas with them. I want to make it clear that nobody walked out of the church when I was given the microphone to speak,” said Mr Lufafa.
He, however, added that there were two women who shouted at him saying he sold his constituents in Parliament by voting for presidential age limit removal.

“But before I could leave the church, they approached me and apologized for their actions,” he added.
This is not the first time voters in Butembe are accusing their law maker of ignoring their views.
During age limit consultations, voters vandalized Mr Lufafa’s vehicle accusing him of being on the ‘wrong side.’
