KAMPALA. Inexperience and defensive gaps were to blame as Uganda fell to Rwanda again in the opening fixture of the Africa Zone 5 handball championships at Lugogo indoor stadium yesterday.
Uganda had put up a strong show against the defending zonal champions but last-minute mistakes cost the hosts. The first half ended with both teams tying up at 18 points each.
Still, in the second half both teams moved neck to neck before coach Jimmy Orotin was sent off the bench and Uganda was reduced to five men. Unlike in football where the coach pays in person, in handball a player is withdrawn to penalize the coach.
The decision gave Rwanda the advantage over the hosts and clinched the winner in the dying minutes.
