Letshego, IHSU excel in Rotary tournament

KAMPALA.

Letshego, a financial services firm, and Rotaract Club of International Health Sciences University (IHSU), emerged champions of the inaugural Rotary 5-a-side football tournament held Saturday at Lugogo Hockey Ground. The tournament that attracted 30 teams from around the country was held to raise money for Rotary community service projects to improve the lives of disadvantaged people in the community.

Letshego emerged champions in the Rotary category after beating Rotary Club of Hoima Kitara 2-0 in the final. Rotary Club of Kampala Ssesse beat Rotary Club of Kampala South 5-1 for third place.

Letshego won Shs2.5m whilst Rotary Club of Hoima Kitara bagged Shs1.5m with all prize money going to Rotary community service projects. In the Rotaract category, Rotaract Club of IHSU, beat Rotaract Club of Kampala University to win Shs1.5m for their community service project. Kampala University won Shs1m.
Rotaract Club of Kyambogo beat Rotaract Club of Makerere University in the third place play-off 3-0.

Anne Begumisa, president of the Rotary Club of Kiwatule, said the tournament was a success and thanked Rotarians and Rotaractors for turning up in large numbers to participate in the event and support their teams.

“I thank all the Rotary and Rotaract clubs, who registered for the tournament and I know we all had fun. Thanks to your enthusiasm. Next year’s event promises to be bigger, better and more exciting,” noted Begumisa.

Samuel Matekha, the KCB marketing manager said he was honoured for his bank to be given an opportunity to work with Rotary as one of the organisers. “Rotary is one of the top charity organisations in the world and we are thankful for this opportunity to work with them. The turn up at this tournament was impressive and I am sure this is the beginning of a long and cordial relationship between KCB and Rotary,” said Matekha.
