Hosts Uganda have Wednesday defeated reigning champions Zimbabwe to record their fourth straight victory at the on-going African Netball Championship that ends on Thursday.

The She Cranes won 61-45 to move within one victory of a maiden African title in the first game at the Lugogo MTN Arena on Wednesday afternoon.

Despite not being at their best, the Ugandan side did just enough to seal a win that ends Zimbabwe’s reign as continental champions.

The latter had come into the game needing victory after losing one of their three opening games at the six-team round robin-tournament.

They were however unable to dislodge the She Cranes who led throughout the game with 16-8 after the first quarter.

The scores continued to indicate a marginal increase for the Ugandan side despite resistance from their opponents as the third period ended 46-35.

Uganda returns to action on Thursday against Zambia while Zimbabwe play Namibia in the first game on the same day.
