KAMPALA.
Kenyan-born Ugandan international Scot Oluoch is uncertain of tagging along with the rest of the team when the Rugby Cranes head to Tunisia on June 8. The Cranes are on a mission to get promoted to CAR Tier 1A.
“I have not yet made up my mind,” said the 32-year-old. “Some personal commitments are holding me back from training with the rest of the squad,” Oluoch told Daily Monitor.
The DMark Kobs eighth man, who sometimes plays as a flanker, was part of the 25-man squad summoned two months ago to prepare for the crucial voyage to Tunisia but he has been absent from the training sessions held at Kyadondo RFC for the last two weeks.
Oluoch is a natural born leader and winner having won nine consecutive league titles with traditional giants Heathens and Kobs.
Despite the continued absence from training, Oluoch believes that there is a possibility of rejoining the team before flying to Tunisia if he can deal with his commitments in time for the trip.
“My chances of making the trip are 50 per cent. I just have to first deal with everything in my way,” added the 2009 League MVP.
His withdrawal follows that of Ronald Musajja (work), immensely talented Ivan Magomu and Sevens-exponents Alfred Bijik and Ezekiel Okol. Coach Peter Magona has also tried to fill the voids by drafting in eighth man Eric Butime (Pirates) and prop Eber Eturinde (Kobs).
Oluoch has been a core member of the Cranes’ side since making his debut in 2009 against Tunisia during the CAR Tier 1B World Cup Qualifier at Kampala Rugby Football Club (KRFC) – now Legends Rugby Club.
He was also part of the Rugby Cranes side that outclassed Kenya in his country of birth to win the 2012 Elgon Cup. The Kobs star man has an illustrious career spanning over 15 years during which he helped Kobs win three successive titles before moving to Heathens where he led them to five in a row and more recently his return to Kobs halted Heathens from notching a sixth straight title. Oluoch has also played for Pirates.
