KAMPALA.

After 7 years of disappointment in the Schools Rugby League, St Mary's College Kisubi added their first schools title since 2009 when they edged favourites Hana Mixed 5-0 in Namilyango on Sunday.

Fly half Arnold Odoi caught the Hana back line napping and broke two tackles before setting up Timothy Odongo for the sole score of the game.

The two had met in the group stages on home and away basis with Hana beating Smack 26-3 in Nsangi but Smack were awarded the points as Hana had used ineligible players before settling for a 13 all stalemate in Kisubi.

" I did not really see it happening although we had done enough homework on them," said Smack coach Paul Sekate.

" Winning it on Namilyango turf makes it even sweeter because of our rivarly," he added.

Having whitewashed Namilyango 43-3 in the semifinals, Hana were clear favourites but resolute defending and dominance at set pieces from Smack frustrated and forced them into numerous handling errors.

" We had no structure and everyone wanted to score. we never played as a team at all and that made the game hard for us,"a disappointed Hana Coach Kevin Keremundu reasoned.
