Kasawo win battle, Kibuli SS win war

Glorious moment: Kasawo won football

Mbarara.

Generally, you could say that for four days, the Uganda Muslim Education Association (Umea) solidarity games went on without any hindrances. There were no cases of age-cheating and violence, which usually bog down schools’ games in Uganda.

The games, which started on Friday and climaxed yesterday at Kakyeka Stadium, saw Kibuli Secondary School defend their overall winners’ trophy for the third consecutive time.

They accumulated the highest number of points after winning gold in handball (boys and girls), badminton (boys) and netball. They also finished second in football (girls) and third in boys’ football.

In the boys’ football final, Kasawo SS overcame Bulo Parents 4-3 in a nervy penalty shoot-out after a 1-all stalemate. Martin Nsubuga’s early second half goal was cancelled out by Bulo’s Ismail Ramtallah, who netted a stoppage time freekick from the edge of the box.

The game then headed for the shoot-out and Kasawo ended on top after Kosiya Waiswa’s shot hit the post. The two teams had earlier met in a group D match, which Bulo won 2-1. It was only the second time for Kasawo to win the football trophy, after the inaugural one in 1998. Bulo last won it in 2010.

In the girls’ football category, Kawempe edged Kibuli 2-1. The games, which are sponsored by Tropical Bank, City Tyres and Coca Cola, shall be played at Nkoma Secondary School in Mbale next year.
