It was supposed to a fun and interesting night but so many things went wrong right from the start, at the Miss Bunyoro 2010/2011 pageantry last Saturday. Revellers started storming the gates of Da Place in Hoima town by 7p.m.

Luckily for the event managers, the moonlit night saved the poorly lit podium. But that was all the luck they had. There was a lot of booing and heckling from the eager spectators who shouted “foul play,”throughout the show.

The contest that was slated to begin at 8p.m. started at 10p.m. with the organisers – Kitara Promotions still running up and down to put down the programme for the night.

The place was quiet, with no music to entertain the revellers until 9p.m. when the on and off music system was put on. To save the situation, Deejay Fredo of Spice FM tried to entertain the already haggard revellers who had sipped several volumes of Club Beer a product of Nile Breweries – sponsors of the pageant.

There were seven contestants and Ms Caroline Karungi, 22 from Kiryandongo District was crowned Miss Bunyoro. Standing at 5.4ft, the Senior Six leaver from Blessed Comboni SS beat contestants from Hoima, Masindi, Kibaale and Buliisa Districts.

The beauty contestant said she did not expect to win the pageant. “I really never expected this. I was only encouraged by my mother to participate. It is great,” said the happy looking contestant. Ms Karungi is currently working in a boutique in Kiryandongo town.
She was promised a DSTV decoder and Shs600,000.

The runners up were Ms Maureen Happy, 24, from Kibaale District, who was first runner up and Ms Victoria Mugisa from Hoima. District was the second runner up.
