‘I hate women who bleach’

Joab Musabe a.k.a. Daddy Skills is a gospel music producer, cast model and an artiste. Sarah Tumwebaze talked to him about his roles

Describe yourself in a few words.
I’m a God fearing person, generous, I love my family especially my mum. I’m also referred to as Daddy Skills because I love children so much. So I believe that when I get my own family, I will be a very good father.

For how long have you been in the music industry?
For five years now. I started as a producer at Fish Next Studios in 2004. At that time I did a couple of productions for people like Sauti group, Angella Katatumba, Isaiah Katumwa, Richard Kaweesa and God’s Image among others.
At the moment, I have embarked on a solo career where I do positive music that teaches people, addresses issues in the community like HIV and the Pearl of Africa. I also advocate for environmental conservation in my music plus I have another song in support of Uganda Cranes.

What do you hate about women?
Some women do not want to listen to the man’s side. They always want us to listen to their side and I find this very irritating. I also hate women who bleach. Such women do not appreciate what God gave them. They want to become whites forgetting that black is beauty.

What do you like about women?
They are lovely, they support us and they help a lot when it comes to building the family. That’s why they say that behind every successful man, there is a woman.

Besides music, what else do you do?
I do audio advertising, l work with the youth through training choirs, I also do recording and I’m a cast model.

Has a woman ever hit on you?
Yeah, I remember, she approached me and said that I looked like someone she knew. I thought that since she had noticed that I was not the person she thought I was, she would walk away. Instead she sat next to me and started talking about silly things but I was not into her. We are now friends.

What is your greatest achievement?
I had a dream of becoming a producer and thank God, when I contacted Isaac Rucci, he gave me the opportunity to train and within a short time, I was a producer. I have managed to make an impact in music especially in the gospel field and I also believe that I’m one of those producers who have managed to improve the quality of gospel music to make it sound better.

Do you face any challenges?
Yes I do. Normally some artistes come to the studio and they just cannot sing but they want you to make them sound like Celine Dion and when I fail, they start complaining. The other challenge is it is hard to push someone’s music or your own on air if you don’t have money.

Have you ever been heartbroken?
Yes, and I think it was my fault because I broke up with some girl I loved so much because of a small misunderstanding. She was very hurt and started crying. At first, I was not bothered but when she left I felt so bad and yet I couldn’t get back with her.

 What is your greatest fear?
Hypocrisy, I’m afraid of hypocrites too because they can do anything to you since they are always pretending.
