What you need to know:

Naguru is one of those places with many access routes. However, getting there is a challenge because only a few commuter taxis are seen around the area.

Naguru is one of those posh residential places with a number of highend houses, some of which have been turned into offices. It is divided into Upper and Lower Naguru with the former being more developed than the latter.

Accessibility
To go to Naguru, you will need to board a taxi and get off at Kiira Road Police Station. From there, you will hire a motorcycle via Kampala Parents’ School. The other alternative route is on Jinja Road. When you reach Shop Rite Lugogo, you can connect to Naguru via the China- Uganda Friendship Hospital or turn off at Cooper Motor Corporation at Nakawa and through Bukoto just after Kabira Country club as you go to Ntinda.
Ronald Mugumya who has been a resident of Naguru for the last six years, says though Naguru is close to town, it does not favour those that don’t have private means of transport.
“The most convenient means to reach the deeper ends of Naguru by boda boda. Besides, it is even riskier to move at night,” Mugumya says, adding that commuter taxis are seen in the area once in a while.
“But despite its inaccesibility, Naguru is a secure place because of the presence of Uganda Police headquarters in the area,” Mugumya says.

The structures
By sight, the bigger part of Naguru is mostly covered by residential houses, roofed with tiles and surrounded by high perimeter walls that make it hard to see what is inside some fences. Your only chance of having a glimpse at what lies inside is when you find an open gate.

Land and housing
Mugumya reveals that considering the fact that Upper Naguru is a mainly a residential area, it is hard to find land for sell. However, “You can easily get land for sell in the lower side of Naguru at prices ranging from Shs70m and Shs150m for 50 by 100 feet.
Renting a single self-contained room costs between Shs180,000 and Shs200,000 and a three-bedroom self-contained house goes for between Shs700, 000 and Shs2m. Double roomed self-contained houses, Mugumya says go for between Shs200,000 and Shs400,000.
Social amenities within Naguru include schools like Daffodils Nursery School, Delhi Public School International and Kampala Parents’ School and health facilities such as the Surgery. Apart from residential houses, other facilities of accommodation in Naguru are storeyed apartments like Deluxe Town Houses that are both for rent and sale and Palm apartments. Therefore, if you are planning on doing any real estate business in Naguru, building apartments close to road will earn you some good money.

Security At Naguru Go Down Police Station just along Naguru Drive, Sophia Night, a police lady at the station, says they carry out day and night patrols targeting idlers who look suspicious while hiding in wrong places and dark corners. “We are also connected to residents and civilians and landlords who have police contacts. When there is a problem in the community and they need police intervention, they call us and we will be there to give a protective hand,” Night explains.
