Muhoozi promoted to colonel
First Son Lt. Col. Muhoozi Kainerugaba was yesterday promoted to full colonel in a range of promotions announced by the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima.
Col. Kainerugaba, who has attended command courses at Sandhurst and at Fort Leavenworth, is the commander of the Special Forces Group, the praetorian guard in charge of his father, President Museveni’s protection.
Also promoted to colonel were army spokesman Felix Kulayigye, and the deputy chief of legal services, Kagoro Asingura.
Lt. Col. Baguma Mugume, the chief controller of finance, was also promoted to full colonel, as was Lt. Col. Sam Kakuru of the army’s training department.
The Director of Protocol in the UPDF, Lt. Col. Richard Karemire, was also promoted to colonel while Major Reuben Mugenyi, the director of logistics in the Land Forces, was promoted to lieutenant colonel.
Col. Muhoozi recently denied claims by NRM vice chairman (Eastern region) Mike Mukula, revealed in leaked US embassy cables that he was being groomed to succeed his father.
“His excellency President Yoweri Museveni is not grooming me for presidency,” he told The New Vision newspaper. “I often wonder what people mean when they say I am being groomed for presidency.”
