LUWEERO
Police in Luweero District are hunting for a 27-year-old woman who allegedly beat to death her 9-year-old niece over missing money.
Ms Rebecca Ayeta, the officer in charge of Luweero Police Station, says the suspect who is in hiding is a resident of Kasoma Zone in Luweero Town Council.
She reportedly beat Lamuziya Namakula on Sunday night for allegedly misplacing Shs5, 000 which she had kept in her rented room.
“Eva Namugenyi reportedly used an electric cable and a stick to beat the girl and told her to go to bed. She [girl] was later discovered dead at about 5:00am on Monday morning,” Ms Ayeta told Daily Monitor in an interview.
Mr Abdul Tamuzadde, the village Local Council chairperson blamed the neighbours for not responding when the girl was crying for help from them.
“It is unfortunate that people only mind about their own business even when they suspect that somebody is committing a crime. The neighbours only came in to report the death of the young girl yet they heard the woman beating her at night”, Mr Tamuzadde said.
