- Table toppers. KIU’s Isaac Ishioke leads the goal charts with 20 while Somoka, who was the top scorer last season, is on 18.
KAMPALA. The shocks have relatively been few in the National Beach Soccer League this season, and that points to the intensity and unrelenting nature of the earmarked contenders.
As the league entered business stage last Sunday at Lido Beach, the top three challengers Mubs, St Lawrence University (SLAU) and holders Isabeti meted out deserved punishments to their opponents.
Roch Somoka scored four times and Rica Byaruhanga twice as Isabeti overcame Buganda Royal 7-4 in a pulsating win that brought them within four points of leaders Mubs.
“This league title will be decided when we face Mubs, SLAU and KIU. We started on a bad note (had three points taken away for not travelling to Mutoola to play Mubs) but we have gradually recovered,” Isabeti manager Isa Asiimwe told Daily Monitor.
Charles Ayeikoh’s Mubs showed marks of champions in the making by putting up a spirited fight against resilient Stormers in their 7-6 victory. Douglas Muganga (5 goals), Frank Bomboka (1) and Isma Kawawulo (1) netted for the three-time league winners who will ride on the vastly experienced side if they are to win the title.
SLAU manager Peter Seguya has vested his title charge on the shoulders of Swalley Kigundu, Sulamain Ochero and Jonathan Luyimba who were pivotal in the 6-2 demolition of Mutoola Beach. At 18, SLAU is two points behind Mubs which makes their pending clash this Sunday, a mouthwatering and decisive one. KIU’s Isaac Ishioke leads the goal charts with 20 while Somoka, who was the top scorer last season, is only two goals shy.
